Molly's Story

You may remember Molly May, she can to our rescue after a wonderful community member found her at her country home. Molly is a polydactyl (extra toes) domestic medium haired brown tabby, with beautiful blue/green eyes. Molly showed up at her home extremely pregnant and needing a safe place to have her babies and receive the care that she needed. Feline Friends Hallettsville found her a foster and took her to one of our wonderful local veterinarians to make sure she and her unborn kittens were in good health and how many kittens she would have. The vet gave Molly a clean bill of health and told her foster to expect 4 kittens. About a week later when it looked like Molly had a small soccer ball in her belly she finally went into labor and delivered 4 beautiful kittens. Unfortunately, she did end up losing one of them from unknown causes; which happens more often than you would think.

Molly was a wonderful mama to her babies and took great care of them. Her foster family spoiled her and her kittens and loved them very much. And once her kittens were old enough to get their first set of vaccines and were weaned off of Molly they were able to find their own homes. They were quickly adopted as they are beautiful medium haired kittens. 2 went to family or friends of members of Feline Friends Hallettsville and 1 went to one of our members. They all got wonderful homes and we get regular updates on them. They are about 6 months old now and are either already spayed or neutered our are scheduled for surgery. Our organization requires that all kittens adopted through us to be spayed or neutered no later than 6 months of age, and we require proof once it is done (this is in our contract that you sign when you adopt from us). Proof can be a paper from your veterinarian stating that they had the surgery, or even a statement of the bill from the surgery from your veterinarian.

After all 3 of Molly's kittens found their wonderful homes it was Molly's turn. She was spayed and placed up for adoption. A wonderful man adopted Molly and Binx (a black neutered male) from us to live their lives out in his country home where they are safe to roam and hunt with access to shelter, love and care.

Thanks to our wonderful fosters and volunteers this is just one great story about what our program does and why we do it. This is what we love about rescue and how we wish every rescue story unfolds. Unfortunately, they aren't all happy endings, but the good outweighs the bad.
Feline Friends Hallettsville is always looking for fosters, adopters, volunteers, and donations. Without them we could not continue our program and help those that we can. We rescue cats and kittens, but we also help community members whenever we can with helping rehome cats and kittens when they can no longer be cared for where they are, we help supply food to those who help feed the local stray/feral cats, and on a case by case basis we take in owner surrenders. Most of our cats and kittens we take in are from similar situations as Molly. Kittens are found that are in need of bottle feeding, or Cats that are in need of medical care and are friendly. We are not able to take in feral cats at this time, but we do have a Trap Neuter Release program, where we trap and get the cats spayed or neutered and return them to where they were trapped. This program helps slowly over time reduce the population of feral cats in that area. Community members can help with this by keeping their cats inside and getting them spayed and neutered. We can refer those in need to low cost spay and neuter programs in the area.
